Compound Specific Isotope Analyses (CSIA)

Compound Specific Isotope Analysis (CSIA) is a powerful technique which permits the measurement of isotopic compositions of individual, chromatographically amenable organic compounds (molecular species). As such, CSIA can be used to obtain detailed information about compound formation mechanism which cannot be readily gleaned from bulk isotopic analyses. Over the last decade, both sulfur and carbon isotopic studies at the molecular level have been successfully applied to organic/petroleum geochemistry. Recently, measurement of hydrogen isotopic compositions of individual organic compounds has also become possible. SHEETA has been fully equipped to perform various compound specific isotope analyses, including 34S, 13C and 2H isotopes.
